VERY IMPORTANT! It is one hour earlier in Sayulita than it is in Puerto Vallarta. This, of course, becomes most important at departure time when catching your return flight! Villa Amor and most accommodations will provide transportation from the airport for a fee. : There are many taxis available at the airport. The cheaper ones can be found across the street and over the overpass. Taxi drivers will accept payment in dollars also, but you can exchange money at the airport. It’s about 45 minutes or so to Sayulita from the airport in a taxi. To get a taste of the local color, there is a reliable and inexpensive bus service to and from PV airport several times a day. Upon exiting the airport, walk across the overpass to find where the northbound buses to Sayulita stop to pick up passengers. Routes are painted on the front of the bus or posted in the window. Sayulita will be listed on the bus you will want to take. Ask the driver to be sure they will take you into the village of Sayulita, not just to the road outside the village, which is a long walk with luggage. The bus takes a little longer, but it’s the real deal! Our first evening of retreat, we will have an orientation with light yoga and a snack at 7pm. We will meet at Palapita Evelyne, where our yoga will be held each day. The Palapita is down at the same end of the beach as Villa Amor (the south end) and the owners’ names are Evelyne Boren and Michael Sadlier. We will have signs on the gate along the road near the beach. Our retreat will end at noon on the last day of the retreat. Further schedule details will be available at the first evening gathering. There are many small grocery stores that carry all necessities. You can buy local fruit, milk, fresh baked bread and fresh fish daily, for example. There are also stores selling film, liquor, pharmacy items, gifts, clothing, art and a wonderful selection of restaurants. Sayulita is a fishing village, so most restaurants prepare locally caught fish and shrimp straight from the boat to your plate daily. Food is clean and well prepared. Previous participants have raved about food choices in Sayulita. The nearest hospital is in Puerto Vallarta, and there are doctors who speak English and are American trained. Sayulita has a clinic with an English speaking doctor. As stated prior, passports are now required in Mexico. Upon arriving in Mexico you will be issued a Mexican tourist card that you must hold onto, as it will need to be presented again upon departure. Check with your travel agent or on the internet to doublecheck current requirements prior to the time you will be traveling. The money exchange at PV Airport offers competitive exchange rates, and we strongly recommend you get some money exchanged there. While you can use dollars in some places in Sayulita, there were no banks when last we visited and personal checks are not accepted. There are a few merchants in Sayulita who will exchange money for you and traveler’s checks can sometimes be cashed there, but it may not be at the most competitive rate. At our last visit there was a money exchange location in town, which is just cash for cash (no credit card access available.) Travelers have long avoided the tap water in Mexico. In homes and restaurants alike, only bottled, purified water is used for food and drink preparation. Water is usually provided at the hotels and rental properties. You can also buy bottled water at any of the stores in Sayulita. There are a number of phone/fax places and cybercafés with high speed access in Sayulita. Yes!
